The financial year in review saw the Group registering a 12.6% decline in its profit before tax to RM48.7 million from the RM55.7 million recorded previously. The Group’s profitability was impacted by higher provision for the obligation to replace moveable assets and port infrastructure during the concession period. Theexpansion of Sapangar Bay Container Port to serve as theregional transshipment hub and load centre is ongoing withcompletion targeted in 2026. On the property front, phase 2 of JQ project is expected to commence construction in year 2024.

The Group’s profit before tax rose by 14.3% to RM67.0 million from RM58.6 million in 2021 while the profit after tax stood at RM59.1 million an increase of 49.6% from RM39.5 million recorded in the previous year mainly due to higher revenue, as port operations continue to be the main source of revenue for the Group. Going forward, The extended concession period for Sabah Ports up till year 2064 will enable them to continue their port expansion and upgrading programme to serve the State’s economy and to better plan for the future. Other than that, To ensure that the overall planning for Jesselton Waterfront City is holistic, integrated and sustainable, Suria will be revisiting the master plan for the entire waterfront development at Kota Kinabalu Port. Preserving the water’s edge for sustainability purposes is high on the agenda and the review will entail incorporating environmental conscious strategies within the developments.
