PBT saw a decrease of RM3.5 million or 14.9%, amounted to RM20.0 million in FYE 2023 compared to RM23.5 million in FYE 2022. This decline can be attributed to several factors. The Group incurred higher operating expenses due to the recruitment of additional staff, including doctors, nurses, optometrists, and support staff, in preparation for the expansion of new ACCs and satellite clinics at new locations. The Group remains committed to expanding our network of ACCs in Malaysia, adhering to our established operational framework, which involves implementing two approaches for centre expansion.

Our Group’s revenue increased from RM88.9 million in FYE 2021 to RM108.0 million in FYE 2022, representing a year-on-year increase of RM19.1 million or 21.5%. The primary factor contributing to the revenue growth in FYE 2022 was the surge in patients’ demand for treatments, particularly for refractive surgeries and cataract surgeries, which had been delayed due to the various movement control orders in Malaysia in prior years. Our PBT increased by RM4.9 million or 26.4%, to RM23.5 million in FYE 2022 when compared to FYE 2021 of RM18.6 million. Optimax will continue to set up satellite clinic/centres as part of its future plans to provide eye examination and consultation services to further improve our market reach. The Group will also continue to invest in brand building and promotional activities to remain competitive

The Group continued to enjoy an increase in revenue from its eye specialist services in the current financial quarter under review. With the easing and relaxation of certain restrictions under the NRP, there was an increase in the number of patients, including patients coming for refractive surgeries and cataract surgeries. The Group’s PBT decreased by RM0.5 million mainly due to the one-off professional fees paid to consultants for the transfer listing exercise in the current financial quarter under review.

The Group’s PBT increased by RM2.65 million mainly due to the increase in revenue in the current financial quarter under review. The increase in revenue was mainly due to the fewer business days in the preceding financial quarter ended 31 March 2022 as compared to the current financial quarter attributable to the festive Chinese New Year period in the month of February 2022 where people tend to defer their surgery until after the festive period coupled with the shorter February month.

The drop in revenue was also due to the current financial quarter under review which has shorter business days as compared to the immediate preceding financial quarter because of the February month (28 days of business days) and coupled with festive season such as Chinese New Year as people tend to do surgery after the festive season. The Group’s revenue declined by approximately 22.19% in Q1 2020 from its revenue for the 3-month financial period ended 31 December 2019 (“Q4 2019”) of approximately RM16.81 million. While its business falls within essential services and the Group was able to continue its operations during the MCO Period, the Group’s revenue was still unfavourably affected due to the measures and precautions implemented by the Group to safeguard and protect its customers and employees.
