For the current financila year ended 31 July 2024, the group’s PBT surged by 285%, reaching RM107.295 million, compared to RM31.830 million in the previous financial year. The improved PBT was largely due to a substantial increase in the share of profit from the Joint Venture (JV) entity, favourable foreign exchange translation effects and higher revenue. Moving Forward, The Malaysian government’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030 and MITI’s two-year moratorium, effective August 2023, are set to strengthen the local steel industry. The Group is well-positioned to benefit from these changes, especially with the upcoming completion of the JV’s Hot Rolled Coil (HRC) plant in Q4 2024. This will enhance the Group’s product offerings in both domestic and export markets.

The Group’s Profit from Operations dropped significantly by 97.1% to RM4.25 million from RM147.99 million in the previous financial year. This was primarily driven by the elevated cost of inventories brought forward, resulting in a considerable reduction in profit margins. With the successful ignition of the new 2.0 million MT blast furnace in August 2023 and first production in October 2023, the JV entity’s steel production capacity has increased from 0.70 million MT to 2.7 million MT per annum. This expansion in capacity, together with the progressive completion of the plant’s auxiliary facilities, will lead to multi-folds increase in the JV entity’s revenue with significant costs saving arising from the greater economy of scale.

Loss from operations in the current quarter was at RM 45.058 million as compared to profit from operations for preceding quarter of RM6.678 million. This was mainly attributed to lower selling price, high costs of inventories and the write-down of inventories to net realisable value. Consequently, the Group incurred a loss before tax for the Group in 1Q2023 at RM47.996 million as compared to profit before tax of RM25.649 million in 4Q2022.

  4. BURSA MALAYSIA

    BURSA MALAYSIA

Profit from operations in the current quarter declined sharply by 84% to RM6.678 million as compared to RM40.900 million in the immediate preceding quarter. This was mainly attributed to higher costs of goods sold and the write-down of inventories to net realisable value. Consequently, Profit before tax for the Group in 4Q2022 was lower at RM25.649 million as compared to RM41.333 million in 3Q2022 despite higher contribution from JV entity

  5. BURSA MALAYSIA

    BURSA MALAYSIA

Profit from operations in the current quarter improved by 12% to RM40.900 million as compared to RM36.442 million in the immediate preceding quarter. This was contributed by improved sales volumes though partially offset by lower profit margin due to the decline in steel prices.

  6. BURSA MALAYSIA

    BURSA MALAYSIA

Profit before tax of the Group has reduced to RM36.588 million in 2Q2022 as compared to RM86.333 million in 1Q2022, primarily affected by lower share of profit from JV entity of RM3.362 million in the current quarter as compared to RM23.273 million in the immediate preceding quarter partly due to lower shareholding from 35.0% to 27.3%. The downward movement of steel prices during 2Q2022 has impacted the margin for both the JV and downstream operating entities.
