BURSA MALAYSIA –
3Q22 operating income grew 2.3% QoQ to RM5.00 billion from RM4.88 billion in 2Q22 underpinned by a higher NII from robust loan growth and NIM expansion in Malaysia and Singapore. As a result, the Group’s 3Q22
net profit was 5.5% higher QoQ.
The Edge –
July-September quarter earnings of the 10 public-listed banking groups were a mixed bag. This was mainly on the back of higher-than-expected investment gains, cost controls and, for some, a quicker pace of recovery in net interest margin (NIM). CIMB Group Holdings Bhd performed below expectations because of larger-than-expected provisions.
The Star –
CIMB Bank Bhd and CIMB Islamic Bank Bhd have introduced the expanded Targeted Payment Assistance (TPA) programme to assist B40 and microenterprise borrowers until end-June 2021. Under the expanded TPA programme, which opened for application effective yesterday (Nov 23), eligible borrowers will enjoy a deferment of monthly instalments for three months or a 50% reduction in monthly instalments for six months.
The Edge –
Banking stocks are among the value gainers this week. Banking stocks have regained some lost ground over the past two weeks as investors were adding cyclical stocks to their portfolios to hedge investment risks. CIMB Group Holdings Bhd has risen the most since the start of the month, it has climbed 23.4%. The banks’ quarterly earnings will be closely watched amid concern on asset quality.
The Star –
The FBM KLCI experienced a positive start on Tuesday as the relief rally continued following US President Donald Trump’s discharge from hospital and US stimulus hopes rose. Financial counters gained with Maybank up seven sen to RM7.19, Public Bank up six sen to RM15.86, Hong Leong Bank jumping 38 sen to RM15.38, CIMB adding two sen to RM3.08 and RHB rising five sen to RM4.55.
The Edge –
Eight out of 10 Malaysian banks are trading below their book values. CGS-CIMB Research pointed out that banks yesterday were trading at their lowest price-earnings ratios (PERs) since 2013 and were at all-time-low P/BVs. CIMB Group Holdings Bhd was at 0.54 times.
BURSA MALAYSIA –
The Group’s Consumer Banking posted a Loss Before Tax of RM82 million, compared to a PBT of RM527 million in 1Q20, from a combination of the impact of the modification loss on NII and higher provisions owing to 2Q20 MEF adjustments. The 241.2% QoQ increase in Commercial Banking PBT was primarily attributed to the 45.1% decline in loan provisions.
BURSA MALAYSIA –
The Group reported a Profit Before Tax of RM714 million for 1Q20. The weaker PBT was attributed to lower non-interest income and higher provisions across selected markets. The Group’s 1Q20 net profit stood at RM508 million, translating to a net Earnings Per Share of 5.1 sen and an annualised Return On average Equity of 3.7%.
