The Edge –
July-September quarter earnings of the 10 public-listed banking groups were a mixed bag. This was mainly on the back of higher-than-expected investment gains, cost controls and, for some, a quicker pace of recovery in net interest margin (NIM). AMMB Holdings Bhd performed below expectations because of larger-than-expected provisions.

The Group generated revenue of RM2,214.6 million, a marginal decrease compared to last quarter. Fund based income from interest bearing assets decreased mainly from interest on customer lending. Non-interest income increased mainly from trading and investment income as a result of favourable market conditions.
