The Group saw its earnings before interest, income tax, depreciation and amortisation (“EBITDA”) and pre-tax profit decline by 38.3% and 54.6% respectively to RM88.0 million (2021: RM142.6 million) and RM47.9 million (2021: RM105.6 million) respectively. The decrease was mainly due to the higher procurement costs for its raw materials and trading inventories during the first half of 2022, higher production costs for certain manufacturing steel products and the declining domestic metal prices during the second half of 2022. Going Forward, The group’s Wholesale and Distribution segment is planning to commence the distribution of its own manufactured steel products in East Malaysia and expand its range of valves and fittings products in the sewerage sector. While, the segment will be focusing on revenue management of all the three hotels located at Selangor and Kuala Lumpur and will intensify its marketing plan to offer attractive rooms and MICE packages to the local government agencies and private sectors while maintaining attractive room rates for foreign and local tourists and free and independent travellers.

The increase in revenue as compared to preceding quarter ended 30 September 2022 was mainly due to the increase in market demand for certain metal related trading products and the sale of properties in Selayang and Kepong. However, the Group recorded a loss before tax in the current quarter mainly due to higher procurement costs for its raw materials and trading inventories during the first half of the year, higher production costs for certain manufactured steel products, net loss on impairment of trade receivables totaling RM6.1 million (2021: RM1.2 million) and the declining domestic metal prices during the second half of the year.
