The Group’s Profit before tax (“PBT”) for FY2022 increased by 160.9% to RM81.4 million. This significant growth in overall profitability was largely due to an outperformance from the retail segment and a turnaround in the poultry segment. Additionally, the contribution from PT Bonanza in Q3FY2022 and Q4FY2022 boosted the prawn segment whilst the re-opening of schools in Sarawak drove the performance of the food service segment.

PBT declined 47.4% to RM17.8 million in Q4FY2022 from the immediate preceding quarter. This significant spike in profitability in Q3FY2022 leading to the high base effect was due to a one-off gain from disposal of investment property and a subsidy scheme from the GOM. Overall gross profit margins declined to 20.2% from 20.7% in Q3FY2022.

PBT increased 126.3% to RM33.8 million in Q3FY2022 from the immediate preceding quarter. This significant spike in profitability was due the maiden contribution from PT Bonanza that boosted the prawn segment, increased activity of schools in Sarawak that drove the performance of the food service segment, return to profitability of the poultry segment, and the outperformance of the retail segment. Overall gross profit margins improved to 20.6% from 19.5% in Q2FY2022.

PBT increased marginally to RM14.9 million in Q2FY2022. Strong performances were recorded across the retail and food service segments. Overall gross profit margins declined to 19.5% from 20.6% in the immediate preceding quarter. This was due to a loss in the poultry segment as a result of unfavorable short term feed cost movements and the weakness in the Malaysian Ringgit.

PBT increased by 16.7% to RM8.1 million despite a downtick in gross profit margins to 18.6% in Q3FY2021 (Q2FY2021:19.0%). Profitability was largely driven by an outperformance from the retail segment and a reduction in losses from the poultry segment.

The Group’s profit before tax declined by 45% when compared to the immediate preceding quarter. The gross profit margin for March 2021 was 20.15%, as opposed to 20.9% in December 2020. The poultry segment’s results decreased by approximately 86% from the immediate preceding quarter. This was mainly attributed to the increase in feed price. The share in results of our associate company decreased by 44% from RM2.478 million in the 4th quarter of 2020 to RM1.383 million in the 1st quarter of 2021.

The Group’s revenue for the second quarter decreased by 4% from the first quarter of the year. The second quarter saw the full impact of the Movement Control Order (MCO) on all 3 months of the said reporting period. For the retail segment in Malaysia, many of our food and beverage customers either ceased operations for the period or operated on a limited scale for take-outs and deliveries.

Revenue for the 1st quarter of 2020 declined by 7% from RM173.332 million in the last quarter of 2019 to RM160.963 million. Our business was affected with the onset of the pandemic in the first quarter of this year. Many of our food and beverage customers (eg. Hotels, restuarants, coffee shops, school hostels etc) were closed or operated on a limited scale allowing only deliveries and take-aways. Retail stores in housing areas performed well as household consumers stocked up on their daily necessities.

The Group’s profit before tax increased from RM32.7 million in the 3rd quarter to RM37.0 million in the 4th quarter, an improvement of 13%.
