For the current financial year ended 30 June 2024, The Group’s PBT increased substantially to RM91.06 million from RM40.93 million recorded in FYE 2023. The higher PBT arose mainly from the recognition of fair value gain averaging RM5.58 psf on the Gebeng Land, as well as better Group segmental profit. Going forward, The Energy segment will focus on improving efficiency and pursuing solar projects, while the Tourism and Food and Beverage segments aim to increase market share and explore new opportunities, although the Group remains cautious due to inflation and declining consumer spending.

The Group’s Profit Before Tax increased significantly by more than five times to RM40.93 million from RM6.91 million in the preceding financial year ended 30 June 2022. The higher PBT included a one-off gain of RM45.36 million from the compulsory acquisition by the Government of Malaysia for the East Coast Rail Link (“ECRL”) project. The Energy segment will continue to drive positive results, focusing on optimising the generation capacity and improving efficiency through effective maintenance schedules for both the Sungai Kenerong Plant and Libaran Plant. The Group will continue to closely monitor the performance of the F&B and Tourism segment in view of the ongoing inflationary pressures resulting in an increase in the costs of raw materials and feedstock, and reduced purchasing power of consumers.

    BURSA MALAYSIA

The Group recorded significantly higher PBT of RM47.6 million as compared to RM4.2 million in the preceding quarter ended 30 June 2022, primarily due to the gain on compulsory disposal of partial land classified as investment properties for the ECRL project.

    BURSA MALAYSIA

The Group recorded Profit Before Tax of RM6.91 million for FYE 2022 compared to the Loss Before Tax of RM16.67 million due to the higher revenue. The increase in revenue was registered by all sectors, where primary contributor was from the operations of the Libaran Plant. In addition, the Tourism segment recorded significantly higher revenue, which was achieved as a result of the return of inflow of tourists into Langkawi Island. The optimisation of the operations of the Sungai Kenerong Plant and the Libaran Plant will ensure that the Energy Sector continues to contribute positively to the Group’s performance despite the rising cost of lubricants and the medium fuel oil. For the Tourism segment, the forecasted increase in tourist arrivals to the island, having several international events planned to be held in Langkawi and the increase on international travel will augur well with a projected increase of visitors to UWL
