The Star –
AirAsia X Bhd jumped 25%, or two sen to 10 sen following the emergence of Stanley Choi Chiu Fai as a new substantial shareholder in the carrier. Choi has emerged as a substantial shareholder of AirAsia after he pumped in RM114.46mil to take up the low-cost carrier’s private placement. The private placement is part of AirAsia Group’s massive fundraising exercise, which aims to raise RM1.4bil to RM1.5bil worth of equity via private placement and rights issue. In addition, it intends to borrow RM1bil.
The Edge –
AirAsia Group Bhd saw its net losses widen to RM851.78 million in 3QFY2020, from a net loss of RM51.44 million in 3QFY2019. In the just concluded quarter, the group provided for an impairment of receivables amounting to RM444.2 million, owing to the bankruptcy filing by AirAsia Japan and a debt and corporate restructuring exercise by AirAsia X Bhd. Year to date, AirAsia shares have fallen 58% to 71 sen last Monday.

AirAsia X Bhd’s net loss widened to RM308.46 million in the third quarter ended Sept 30,2020, from RM229.89 million in the same quarter last year. The closure of international borders following the COVID-19 pandemic dragged the long-haul carrier’s revenue down by 94 per cent to RM59.91 million during the quarter under review from RM1.01 billion previously.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has filed a writ of summons and statement of claim against long-haul budget carrier AirAsia X Bhd (AAX). In its filing with Bursa Malaysia, MAHB said it was claiming RM78.16mil from AAX being the outstanding amount for various aeronautical charges pursuant to the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Aviation Services Charges) Regulations 2016 and/or the Conditions of Use for Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

AirAsia X Bhd’s (AAX) share price fell in Burasa Malaysia morning trade today after the budget airline said yesterday it is undertaking a group-wide debt and corporate restructuring to avoid liquidation as the company contends with the impact of Covid-19 pandemic. Yesterday, AAX said in a Bursa filling that the company, which has proposed a restructuring of approximately RM63.5 billion of debts, is also planning a 90% reduction in the firm’s issued share capital and consolidation of every 10 existing AAX shares into one share.

The Group recorded a loss before taxation of RM305 million for the quarter under review as compared to loss before taxation of RM549 million in 1Q20. AirAsia X remains severely affected by the global Covid-19 pandemic. The aircraft fleet remains
grounded, apart from a limited number of cargo and charter flights.
